Fairy Tales... or Reality?

I have been in deep thought recently about something that is very prevalent in all of our lives.  Maybe because I personally have been swinging from one end of the pendulum to the other so frequently the last few days that I can't help but think about it.  I am talking about emotion.  This in one of the only things that every single person on this earth has in common.  People from Shri Lanka feel pain, joy, hate, love, fear just like I do, or people in China do, or in Greenland, Denmark, England, etc.  No one can escape it, emotions are what influence us every minute of everyday.  What a blessing, and what a curse.

The thing that is amazing about emotion is how quickly it changes; one minute you are happy and life is good, and do to one exterior element in your day or life your emotion can change to a drastically different demeanor.  One cloud, one text, one song, one anything can change everything.  It is amazing to me and I don't think that I will ever truly understand it, I don't think we are supposed to.  If we understood everything about emotions then we would feel none, and if we felt none, then this world would be incredibly dull.  Some of the greatest and most beautiful things in this world are governed by emotion. Particularly love.

Love is, in my humble opinion, the key motivator in just about every single thing we do.  Love for parents, love for children, love for siblings, love for a spouse or significant other, love for friends, love for one's self, love for learning, love for life... Are these not the reasons that we do what we do?  Is the love for his family not the reason that a father gets out of bed day after day and goes to work?  So that he may provide for them and give them the necessities of life?  Is love for a friend not the reason why you drop your homework and go hang out when they need someone to talk to?  Is love for a significant other not the reason why when you see their name in your text message inbox you get butterflies and think about how today you can make them feel special?..  Is love not the reason that when you get dumped or rejected that you feel like you have been beat to a bloody pulp?  Ha ha I mean it is certainly not because you hated them.  You love them to a certain degree, and thats why you feel awful after break ups.  Are these not everyday things?  On a religious level is love for God not the reason we pray?  Read the words of God?  Go to church?  It is my belief that love is very much the reason.

So before I get sounding to sappy and emotional, I just want to say that I think "Hollywood" has aided society in losing perspective of what love is.  We are all waiting for this perfect "heel popping" first kiss moment, or the long lost love to ride in on their freakin' white horse.  When in reality what will make you most happy is probably already knocking on your door.  Maybe you walk right past that someone everyday that might be the perfect person for you.  Not just talking about boy-girl relationships either, maybe if you actually opened up to you mom and told her you loved her, you wouldn't fight so much.  Or your brother that you are grateful for his example then it would help him recognize the love he has for you and would strengthen your connection.  Love is not some fairy tale idea.  It is not this thing that only beautiful people can have, it is all around us.  It is us.  It is the strongest human emotion, and as such should be tapped into more frequently and expressed more fervantly.  Then maybe... Just maybe... this world might start heading in the right direction.

Ha wow didn't think all that would come out... But whatever, what can I say i have been thinking about this a lot the last few days, I have a lot to get out of my head and off my chest!  Thanks for taking the time to read.  Now go tell someone that is important to you that you love them.  My name is Dan and this is my real life, until next blog have a good one.  I'm Out!!!
